Artist-in-Residence Program

In 2024, Friends and the BLM leadership team at Red Rock Canyon NCA began developing an artist-in-residence program. The program’s purpose is to allow artists to spend time in and gain inspiration from the beauty of Red Rock Canyon NCA and to celebrate and share the art that results with our visitor community. We hope that this will provide wonderfully enriching experiences and exposure for both our artists and our visitors and that the work completed under this program will contribute to the public understanding, appreciation, and stewardship of Red Rock Canyon NCA.

Below you’ll find profiles of our first two artists-in-residence. In the future, we’ll also post application information for future cycles here. Artists can refer to the application materials from the last cycle to get some insight into the process.

Taylor Pierce - Fall 2025

Taylor Pierce, a self-taught local artist, spent her residency week hiking and immersing herself in the sights, sounds, history and geology of Red Rock Canyon NCA. To close the week, she led a painting workshop where she shared her painting techniques with 18 eager students. On November 22nd, Taylor returned to share the art inspired by her residency. For each of her eight paintings, Taylor wrote an accompanying haiku and prepared beautiful descriptions of her inspirations. One of her residency artworks, “Pinyon Pine”, has been donated to the BLM. Everett Pikyavit - Spring 2025

Everett Pikyavit, a master basket weaver and Southern Paiute elder, was selected as our first Artist-in-Residence for the spring of 2025. Sadly, health issues prevented him from completing the residency. Rather than cancel the program, Red Rock Canyon NCA devoted its support to a celebration of Everett’s life, art, and community. His art was on display in the Visitor Center from March 23rd–April 23rd, and a commemorative art show was held on March 30th. Learn more about Everett Pikyavit, his art, his family, and his community in this short video.
